Eric “Funk E” Torgersen

Hometown boy Eric has been performing on the Tampa Bay music scene for 14 years. Upon graduating high school, he and partner/bassist Shawn White formed/joined numerous local bands, the most notable of which was half-original half-cover outfit Modulus. Eric then went on to co-found local disco pioneers The Hunks of Funk, who enjoyed a highly successful 8-year run, with keyboard virtuoso Jon Cocio in 1996. His brush with greatness came in 1998 when he joined 80’s show band Life With Mikey, whose members also played original music under the name Brainiac’s Daughter. They spent the next several months playing Orlando’s booming original music circuit, and in the spring of 1999 were rewarded with a coveted local band slot at the annual radio festival Livestock, sandwiched between Staind and Kid Rock. Sadly a record deal wasn’t to be and Brainiac’s Daughter soon disbanded, leaving Eric to look for a new opportunity. After the demise of producer/guitarist extraordinaire Steve Nedik and lead vocalist/keyboardist Larry Giuffre’s 9-year 80’s/dance juggernaut Knucklehead in late 1999, Eric came aboard and the band was rechristened Retro-Active. With the help of Larry and Steve, Eric improved his ability to sing while playing and occasionally popped out from behind the drum kit to rap a few old school hip-hop classics, a novelty he continued when he left the band in July 2004 to commit his full attention to his latest project, The Untouchables. This powerhouse funk/rock show band reunites Eric, Shawn and Jon with the addition of former Disco Inferno and Hunks guitar-god and international recording artist Gary Schutt. Although Jon handles the majority of the lead vocals, all 4 members are multi-instrumental and switch several times throughout the performance, giving each one a turn to front the band and further enhancing the choreographed show. Eric is also currently studying both guitar and bass, and has recorded 2 original songs in his home studio which have yet to be debuted onstage. He likes to keep busy with fill-in work and has played with such diverse local acts as Life On Mars/Dr. Funk’s Disco Show, Ramona Hates Pink, smooth jazz band The Vibe, duo Acoudos with acoustic guitar phenom (and Modulus vocalist) Toney Hall and recently played congas for international smooth jazz superstar saxophonist Eric Darius.
